This song is my anthem and a continuous prayer in these troubled times. I wrote it just as the Covid 19 pandemic was starting. Writing helped me process my own fear during that unprecedented time in our collective history. My Dad used to encouraged us to deal with our concerns by helping out someone else in greater need. I think that is what Dr. Maya Angelou meant ,too in her commission to "be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud". Reminding us that gratitude in the mind, cultivates hope in the soul. Somebody's Rainbow is my love letter to the world.

Somebody’s Rainbow by Mehuman c. 2023
(A modern folk spiritual inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou: 'Be A Rainbow In Somebody Else's Cloud’)

To all the babies being born, what will be say?
In the wrath of this storm, I pray you will be safe.
Maybe if we love a little more, maybe if we try
We could leave you something better than the tear in your eye?

To all the children without houses, all the people without homes
Living on broking promises, and dying all alone
Maybe if we gave a little more, maybe if we try
We could give you something better than dreamless lives

I hear the voices of angels singing on high
I see the face of Jesus in suffering eyes
I can do nothing without you and all things with you
Oh, hear my humble cry, “Let me be somebody’s rainbow in dark and stormy skies.”

To all the broken hearted, all the left behind
Oh you weak and weary, oh you troubled troubled minds
Hey there desperado, hey there endless sleepless nights
God is in our struggle, God is in our fight

Maybe if I trust a little more? Lord I need more faith.
Maybe if I give a little more? I’d see amazing grace
Maybe if I love a little more, maybe if I try?
We can share something better, like the rainbows in the sky

I hear the voices of angels singing on high
I see the face of Jesus in suffering eyes
I can do nothing without you and all things with you
Oh, hear my humble cry, “Let me be somebody’s rainbow in dark and stormy skies.”
Oh, let me be somebody’s rainbow in dark and stormy skies!

To all the babies being born, what will be say?
In the eye of this storm, I pray you will be saved.
