From the recording Ladybird (Full Album)
White Lie was actually "Little White Lie". It was also my first attempt at writing a country song. I was in Nashville in the early 2000's, and inspired by my ruby-haired, sister-friend Amanda - a rare "truth teller and keeper". I was "single-ish" at the time (which was also rare) and navigating the Los Angeles dating scene where nothing ever seemed real or true, except the constant sunshine. I met Eric that year, and embarked on another learning curve of love and loss. R.I.P. Eric.
Lyrics
White Lie by Mehuman c. 2023
How come you didn’t try to tell the truth
and wait to see what I’d do?
how come you didn’t try to make me room
to trust in you?
Be faithful in the little things
They’re gifts from above
and a little white lie
can kill a big love
I’m not mad at you baby,
I’ve been in your shoes
I know you say you were afraid,
but I’m no fool
Be faithful in the little things
They’re gifts from above
and a little white lie
can kill a big love
Be faithful, be faithful
I’ve come to far to cross that line
I know too much to change my mind
when love is big, and love is bold
be faithful, be faithful, be faithful
Be faithful in the little things
they’re gifts from above
and a little white lie
can kill a great big love
